Social Monkey Entertainment is a Malaysia-based Influencer, Live Streamer, and Digital Marketing Agency. They aim to train amateurs to become professional live streamers or assist them in becoming influencers.

 

Social Monkey Entertainment collaborated with Serene Music Academy for a songwriting course earlier this year. They composed an original song from scratch at the end of the course. After they finished the songwriting, they wanted to do a music video, and that's when they brought us into the picture.

 

As one says, you need to do well in your pre-production to get fewer struggles during the shoot and post-production. That's why we took about three weeks on the pre-production. We kickstarted the project by creating a mood board for this Christmas music video. Mood boarding gives us a proper idea of how the whole music video feels and flows. It usually includes some reference pictures, the set design styles that we want to pursue and, most importantly, the colour palette.

 

A Colour palette is crucial when it comes to planning the shots and the set design. We try to limit the colours in the shot to Green, Red, and Earth Tones to maintain consistency throughout the music video. We also need to work on the wardrobe and ensure it aligns with the colour palette.

We then move on to location scouting and planning the shots. The concept of this music video is a group of youngsters gathering together for a Christmas party. So the set designer worked closely with us to ensure it felt like an open house Christmas party and make sure the set and the decoration could complement the talents but not overshadow them.

 

Here comes the crazy part, where we execute our pre-production ideas. We spend hours finishing up the set design. We also lighted up the scene with tungsten light for the morning sunray feel and a COB light with a soft box to light up the talent's face.

Then we spend around one month in post-production, which includes rough cutting, choosing shots, editing the video and colour grading them.
